Partnerships & Community Service

Wyeth is committed to creating charitable partnerships and using our resources to build a better, healthier way of life around the world. Listed below are some of the organizations that we work with to improve the health and welfare of our communities.

Barretstown Gang

Group of people

One of Wyeth's most important partners for a better world is the Barretstown Gang Camp in Ireland. The camp provides an innovative, residential camping program for children from Ireland, Britain and throughout Europe diagnosed with cancer and other serious illnesses. Actor Paul Newman founded the organization in 1994, following the success of his Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in the United States. He started the charity with $2 million of his own money, in conjunction with the donation of Barretstown Castle in County Kildare, which was given by the Irish government. The castle property now is home to a first-class facility that offers summer residential camping sessions, as well as weekend programs for children and their parents throughout the year. All programs are provided free of charge.

Each child receives individualized attention from a highly trained supervisor called a "cara," the Irish word for friend. The camp also has a fully equipped medical center staffed by volunteer pediatric doctors and nurses. It is this combination of carefully designed recreation and medical support that allows the camp to deliver on its motto: Helping seriously ill children rediscover the wonder of childhood.

Boston Museum of Science and The Franklin Institute Science Museum

Established in 1830 and attracting 1.6 million visitors each year, Boston Museum of Science is an organization that is on the cutting edge of science education, developing innovative and interactive exhibits and programs that both entertain and educate. Two of the Museum's more recent additions, the Hall Wing housing the Roger L. Nichols Gallery and the Mugar Omni Theater, exemplify the Museum of Science's commitment to making science fun and accessible to all.

The most recognizable part of The Franklin Institute to the public is The Franklin Institute Science Museum. The mission of the Museum is to stimulate interest in science, to promote public understanding of science and to strengthen science education. In 1933, the Institute opened at its current location on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. Exhibits on display cover several subjects including science and industry, physics, astronomy and history.

The Children's Charities Foundation

The Children's Charities Foundation was formed in 1994 by a group of business and professional leaders to raise money for disadvantaged and at-risk youth in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Supported by an annual golf classic, a basketball tournament and a gala dinner, as well as corporate contributions, the Foundation provides funds to nonprofit organizations whose programs strengthen the health and welfare of disadvantaged children, such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters; Boys and Girls Clubs; Childhelp USA; DC Children's Advocacy Center; Everybody Wins! DC; Family and Child Services of DC; I Have a Dream Foundation; Medical Care for Children Partnership; and A Place for Kids.

The Children's Health Fund

Founded in 1987 by singer/songwriter Paul Simon and pediatrician/child advocate Irwin Redlener, M.D., The Children's Health Fund (CHF) is committed to providing health care to medically underserved children through the development of innovative pediatric programs and the promotion of guaranteed access to health care.

The Fund's flagship program, the New York Children's Health Project (NYCHP), features specially designed vans with state-of-the-art equipment — called Mobile Medical Units — that bring pediatric care to homeless children throughout the city. As the nation's largest single provider of health care to homeless children, NYCHP delivered comprehensive care to 3,530 patients in 2004. The success of NYCHP served as the model for CHF's National Children's Health Project, which has expanded the concept of mobile pediatric care to encompass a network of 17 programs across America that have treated more than 300,000 children in nearly 1.2 million medical visits.

Wyeth's partnership with CHF is an extension of the Company's belief that all people should have access to adequate health care. Wyeth supports CHF through financial contributions, fundraising assistance, donations of pediatric vaccines and other medicines, and the support of CHF's advocacy of public policies to ensure access to medical services for needy children.

Liberty Science Center and The New York Hall of Science

scientist and museum

Liberty Science Center is located in Jersey City, New Jersey, and features hundreds of hands-on exhibits that challenge students to better understand basic scientific principles and to encourage active problem solving. The New York Hall of Science opened in 1964 in Queens, New York, and has attracted national and international attention as a leading innovator in education programming. Its goal is to convey the excitement and understanding of science to children, families and teachers by galvanizing their curiosity and offering creative, participatory ways to learn.
